There are several ways of citing the Pandects. Formerly the titles and paragraphs of the Corpus Juris Civilis were not numbered, and it was referred to by citing the initial words of the title, law, and paragraph, e. g. D. de jure detium L. profectitia, ^ si pater, which would now be expressed L. 5, ^ 6, D. de jure detium, or more concisely, D. 23, 3, 5, 6. The latter is sometimes denominated the English method of citation. See Inst, ante Cooper, Pref. 6. 15 A. J. 79 n. 1 Kaufman's Mackeldy, 55. (p) Palmer's Practic« of the House of Lords is sometimes meant by this abbre- viation.
