His Reports may be trusted, so far as they go, and perhaps their only fault is an occasional omission of material facts, which renders a ready comprehension of some Cases rather difficult. The third volume appeared after the Reporter's death, and does not possess equal authority with the two preceding volumes. A large number of the decisions in Peere Williams, have become leading ones, so that by consulting the notes of the editors, it is an easy and profitable study to trace the history and progress of the principles of Equity. The editorial labours of Mr. Cox are much esteemed, and acquired for the Reports the name of the best edited law book in Eng- land. He compared the Cases with the Register's Book, carefully noting the discrepancies, and contributed elaborate though concise notes, which are of almost equal authoriry to the Reports. 1 Wood's Lee. 83; 17 L.
