Sir Hudson Lowe (1760-1844), Governor of St. Helena from 1815 to 1821. One of his first acts upon his arrival was, upon his own re- sponsibility, to raise the amount allowed by the Government for Napoleon's establishment at Long wood from 8,000. to 12,000. per annum.
