That all and every Perfon and Perfons what- P^'fons making foever, who, on or before the flrft Day of May in the Year of our I/ord one thoufand feven hundred and N!"icrof'the!™ ten, fhall make any Candles for Sale, or not for Sale, fnall, on or before the fame firfb Day oi May one Wotk-houfes thoufand feven hundred and ten, give Notice in Writing, at the Office of Excife next to the Place where &c. fuch Candles {hall be made, of every Melting-houfe, Work-houfe, Ware-houfe, Store-houfe, Shop, Room, and other Place, by him, her, or them refpeftively made ufe of for the making or keeping of fuch Candles, or for the melting or keeping any Wax, Tallow, or other Materials proper to be made into Candles, and alfo of all Coppers, Furnaces, Moulds, or other VelTels by them made ufe of for the melting of Wax, Tallow, or other Materials to be made into Candles: And that from and after the faid lirfl: Day oC May one thou- fand feven hundred and ten, during the Continuance of the faid Duties upon Candles, no maker of Can- dles {hall ereft, fet up, alter, change, enlarge, or make ufe of any Melting-houfe, Work-houfe, Ware- »"* not to alter, houfe, Store-houfe, Shop, Room, or other Place for the making or keeping of Candles, or for the melt- f Vt,^ ! f w ing or keeping any Wax, Taflow, or other Materials proper to be made into Candles, or ufe any Cop- Notice, at the per. Furnace, Moulds, or other VeiTel for the melting of Wax, Tallow, or other Materials to be made next Office, into Candles, without firft giving Notice thereof in Writing, or unlefs Notice thereof fliall have been be- fore given in Writing, at the next Office of Excife: And if any Maker of Candles fhall ereft, fet up, alter, enlarge, or make ufe of any Melting-houfe, Work-houfe, Ware-houfe, Store-houfe, Shop, Room, or other Place for the making or keeping of Candles, or for the melting or keeping any Wax, Tallow, or other Materials proper to be made into Candles, or {hall ufe any Copper, Furnace, Moulds, or other Vef- fels for the melting of Wax, Tallow, or other Materials to be made into Candles, without giving fuch Notice thereof, as aforefaid, contrary to the true Meaning of this Aft; then, and in every fuch Cafe, the Offender therein, for every fuch Offence, fhall forfeit and lofe the Sum of fifty Pounds, the one Moiety on Pertalty of thereof to the Ufe of her Majefly, her Heirs and Succeflbrs, and the other Moiety to fuch Perfon or Per- 5° '• fons who will inform, or fue for the fame. Vn. And it is hereby enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That from and after the faid firfl Day of Perfons in Lon- Alay one thoufand feven hundred and ten, during the Continuance of the faid Duty upon Candles hereby ^°"- ic. tocn- granted, all and every Perfon and Perfons whatfoever, who fhall make any Candles in London, Wejlinin- '" montnly, Jler, or in any Parts within the Limits of the weekly Bills of Mortality, fhall monthly, and every Month, and all and every Perfon or Perfons whatfoever, who {hall make any Candles in any other Part of Great in any other Britain, fhall, once in every fix Weeks, make a true Entry in Writing, at the next Office of Excife, of P^^s within all the Candles by him or them feverally made within fuch Month or fix Weeks refpeftively ; which faid ^W"--' Entries {hall contain the Weight, Number, and Size of the Candles mentioned therein refpeftively, and what Quantity thereof was made at each Courfe in the feveral Weeks to which fuch Entry {hall relate, on Pain to forfeit for every Negleft of Entry the Sum of twenty Pounds; which Entries {hall be made Entry to be on upon Oath by the Makers of fuch Candles, or by their chief Workman or Servant, employed in making ^^^^> ^^' the fame, according to the befl: of their Knowledge and Belief, unlefs fuch Maker, Workman, or Ser- vant be a known Quaker, and the folemn Affirmation of fuch Maker, Workman or Servant, to the fame Effeft, in cafe he or fhe be a known Quaker, {hall and may be taken inflead of fuch Oath ; and the faid Entries, Oaths, and Affirmations, to verify the fame, fhall, for fuch Candles as fhall be made within the Limits of the Weekly Bills of Mortality, be made with and adminiftred by fuch Officer or Officers as {hall, be appointed by the Commiffioners of Excife in England, or the major Part of them, for the time being, who {hall attend at the general Excife Office in London for that Purpofe ; and for all Ca-idles made in all other Parts of Great Britain, with and by the refpeftive Colleftors or Supervifors of the Diftrift or Divifion within which the refpeftive Adakers of Candles fhall inhabit, without any Fee or Charge whatfoever to be demanded or taken for the fame. Vin. Provided always. That no Maker of Candles {hall be obliged to go or fend further than the Market Entry to be at Town where his or her Candles are made, or the next Market Town to the Place where his or her '^'" M^'ket Candles are made, for the making of fuch Entries, as aforefaid. °"'"' IX.
