And whereas by a fudden Fire which broke out in the Work-fhop of Thomas Wat/on of Moj-- <=: ^g- 33 Geo. 2. <.. 9 ris^s Caufeway in the Parifh of Lambeth in the County of Surry, Callicoe Printer, on the eighth Day ^ ^^' cf September one thoufznd feven hundred and fifty- five, two thoufand two hundred and one Pieces of printed Eaji India Callicoes, of the Value of two thoufand two hundred and forty-nine Pounds fifteen Shillings and eleven Pence, were burnt and deftroyed : And whereas fundry Duties were paid at the Cuftom-houfe, London^ upon the Importation of the faid Callicoes, and the fame were inten- ded to have been exported to foreign Parts, being by Law prohibited to be worn in thefe Kingdoms, and upon the Exportation thereof, a Drawback to the amount of feven hundred and thirty-fix Pounds and four Shillings, would have become payable to the Exporter thereof: For the Relief therefore of the faid Thomas Watjon; Be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid. And whereas the PafTage called The New Pajfage leading from Charing Crofs into Saint 'James's Park, is very narrow, inconvenient and dangerous, and it would be of publick Convenience to widen and render the fame commodious; Beit therefore enacted by the Authority aforefaid. That The New Pa.Tage from the faid Paflage fliall from henceforth be deemed and taken to be one of the Ways, Streets, Ave- Charing Crofs into St. nues or Paflages, within the Defciption of an Act pafTed in the twenty-ninth Year of the Reign of James's Park, is to be his prefent Maiefty, intituled. An JSi to enable the Commijioners for building a Bridge crofs the River of^^^^^^1l,^^ ^^^ "^^5" Thames, from the City o/" Weftminfter to the oppofite Shore in the County of Surry, to purchafe Houjes p"u"uantTo'thrAft*of ^nd Grounds, and to widen the Ways, and to make juorefafe and commodious the Streets, Avenues and Paf- 29 Geo. a, fages, leading from Charing Crofs, to the two Houfes of Parliament, Weftminfter Hall, and the Courts offuftice there; and Weftminfter Bridge ; and to enable a lefs Number ofCommifJioners to execute the fe- deral Acfs relating to the faid Bridge, than at prefent are required by Law ; and for Relief of George and James King, with Regard to a Leafe taken by their late Father from the faid Commijftoners, according to the true Intent and Meaning of the faid Act ; and all and every the Powers and Authorities, Claufes, Rules, Forms, Directions, Matters and Things, prefcribed, mentioned, exprefTed and contained in the faid Act, fhall extend, and be deemed and conftrued to extend, to impower the laid Commif- and the CommirTioners fioners, or any five or more of them, to widen and render fafe and commodious for Carriages and are impowered to widen PafTengers on Foot, the faid new PafTage, as fully and effectually to all Intents and Purpofes what- the fame accordmgijj foever, and in fuch Manner, and by fuch Ways and Means, as they the faid Commiffioners, or any five or more of them, are authorized and impowed to open and widen any Ways, Streets, Avenues or PafTages, leading from Charing Crofs to the two Houfes of Parliament, Wejlminfer Hall, and the Courts of Juflice there, and Weftminfier Bridge, by virtue of the faid recited Act, or by any of the Powers or Authorities thereby to them given. XL And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid.
