ALMIGHTY and most merciful Lord God of heaven and earth, we approach Thee not as an unknown God; for in mercy thou hast been pleased, for the redemption and salvation of thy people, to appear in the flesh as the promised Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, in whose sacred person the fulness of the Godhead dwells bodily. Thee we acknowledge, in thy Divine humanity, as the Child born, and the Son given. As in pity Thou didst redeem and subdue all things to thyself, so Thou hast, in these latter days, been pleased to reveal thyself to the world as the Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace! Of the increase of thy government and peace there shall be no end. O Lord Jesus we recognise in Thee our Redeemer, the one Jehovah of Hosts, the Lord God of Israel, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin. Gracious Lord, thou who didst send the seraphim with a live coal from the altar to touch the lips of the prophet, and to take away his sin, be mercifully pleased to touch our lips with the same living coal; and with it, as with the hallowed fire of heaven, we implore Thee so to purify our doctrines and confessions of Thee, that our iniquities may be removed, and our sins purged.
