played in your creation, whose goodness is seen in spreading a common table of refreshment for all that live, and whose power is set forth in your constant preservation.
This Almighty Being, this Parent of good, has, in his Word, been pleased to reveal Himself to the children of men as their Creator in the beginning, their Redeemer in time, and their Sanctifier for evermore. He created the human race, male and female, in his own image, and blessed them, and called their name Adam (i.e. Man), in the day when they were created (Gen. v. 2). When we, through inclining to folly and sensuality, left the Divine government for that of our own self-will, He, the Creator, followed us in all our wanderings, and became our Redeemer by delivering us from the thraldom of iniquity, and pointing out, both by precept and example, a new and living way to his kingdom.
O how full of heavenly consolation are these words—"As for our Redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel." (Isa. xlvii. 4.) Bow down your heads, O ye children of men, in wonder and praise to Him who, though the Mighty God and Everlasting Father, for our redemption became the "Child born" and the "Son given," the "Word made flesh;" who in mercy, by becoming our Saviour, assumed the name Jesus, because He saved his people from their sins. (Matt. i. 21.) He is indeed the true Restorer of the soul, our Leader in the paths of Righteousness for his name's sake.
