Tuesdap Morning.
MERCIFUL and ever-blessed Saviour! refreshed as we have been through the past night, by thy precious gift of sleep, we approach Thy throne with thankful hearts to offer up to Thee our morning sacrifice of prayer and thanksgiving. We beseech Thee to be with us through this day's journey of life; and grant that all our works begun, continued, and ended in Thee, may bring to our souls the peace that passeth all understanding, and the joys that never die! O help us to reduce to practice the Truth of Thy Word written for our everlasting good. Give us to feel, as well as to acknowledge, that whenever we meditate on the Truths of thy Word and kingdom, Thou art especially present to instruct, enlighten, and bless. May we remember that as all good affections are clothed with heavenly thoughts, and presented in the words of innocence and truth, so evil affections are dressed in impure thoughts, and transmitted in hypocritical words. Thus, gracious Lord! Thou hast taught us, that every word is but the termination of an interior affection and thought, presenting outwardly the real state that rules within! O God, how true then are these thy words—"Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."
