Sabbath. Let no worldly thoughts intrude into, or mingle with, the hallowed devotions of this day of rest. May peace, harmony, and blessing be constantly found within the walls of thy Jerusalem, and prosperity within her palaces. O Lord Jesus, in whom all Divine fulness dwells, we pray most fervently that Thou wouldst grant thy Holy Spirit to all those ministers of thy church who may be this day engaged in dispensing the Word of Life to thy people. May light from Thee shine down from between the cherubim, and may our hearts be open to receive the instruction from on high. Great Shepherd of Israel, lend thine ear to our prayers and petitions; grant us thy peace, and bountifully feed us with the fatness of thy house. We acknowledge, O Lord, that of ourselves we are nothing but evil, and that in thy sight all our best affections are tinged with impurity: but doubtless thou art our Father, though Abraham be ignorant of us and Israel acknowledge us not. We implore thy blessing upon all who are labouring under affliction, whether of body or mind; may they be resigned to the dispensations of thy providence, and have no other wish but to do thy will. Help us, gracious Father, now to commit ourselves to thy Divine keeping, for under thy providence we are safe.
