image and likeness, and crowned us with glory and honour. May our life's best love be so consecrated to Thee, that thy divine image and likeness may be seen in our outward life. May all our affections and thoughts, from the highest to the lowest, be constantly under the control of thy truth, that we may thus know that Thou hast made man to have dominion over the works of thy hands—that Thou hast put all things under his feet: all sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field, the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the sea. These, our spiritual affections and thoughts, when under thy divine government and control, will bless us with tranquillity and heavenly peace of mind, and lead us to exclaim, O Jehovah our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
Heavenly Father, while we are in the enjoyment of thy gift of sleep, be pleased in mercy to surround with thy providence and protection our souls and bodies. May we in the morning find our strength so renewed, that with joy and gladness we may go on our way, rejoicing in the renewed power which thou hast given us, to fulfil the allotted duties assigned unto us. Help us to follow Thee in the regeneration, that we may be recognized by Thee as the children of the kingdom.
