calling. That we may strive daily for the mastery over our corruptions, arm us with fortitnde, provide us weapous from the Word of Thy truth, and give vs power ao to wield them that everything opposing our progress msy be overcome. O impress us with the certainty of our glorious reward; an incorruptible crown—a heaven of never-ceasing beatitude; the society of glorious and perfect beings, and above all, the constant uninterrupted happiness of dwelling in Thy presence. May the prospect of these glorious enjoymenta withdraw our minds from the things of time and sense: and while we are called upon to fulfil our relative duties in the world, may we remember that these, thongh they must be taithfally performed, are but of secondary consideration to the more important duties which devolve upon the soul. May every trial that awaits us, and in which we must engage, bring with it the promise; He that overcameth shall inherit ali things; he shall be my son, and { will he his God. May these soul-reviving words animate us continually, until the good fight is fought, the victory won, and we entered into that rest which is the result of spiritual conquest. Amen. Our Father, eto.

TUESDAY MORNING.

O LORD Jesus Christ, there is no escape from the darkness of the soul but by coming to the light of Thy truth. Thou only canst discover to us the hidden causes of all our evils. Arise, O Lord! cause Thy face to shine, and we shall be saved. Cleanse, first, that which is within. Purge us with hyssop, and we shall be clean; wash us, and we shall be whiter than snow. Never has our wretchedness been made more plain to us, than by the Word we have read, and yet we know not how to escape, or flee from the wrath to came. It is Thou, O Lord, that must be our instrnctor, as well as our deliverer. "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain." Lord, we desire to humble ourselves for our manifold transgressions, O give unto us broken and contrite hearts! Remove from us the bitter pressure of a terrified mind, and speak peace and pardon to our affrighted souls. Fill us with devout gratitude for Thy long-suffering and forbearance, and give us to feel

"that a grateful mind
By owing, owes not, but still pays; at once
Indebted and discharged."

Keep us in humility this day; assist us in the great work of repentance; may we become more and more lowly, till deep abhorrence for our sins, and humble watchfulness to prevent their recurring, brings us into a state where Thou canst whisper peace and pardon to our souls. Amen.

Our Father, etc.

TUESDAY EVENING.

O LORD Jesus Christ, who hast promised Thou wilt never leave us, Thon wilt be with us even to the consummation of the age. Thou art, indeed, ever with us; for Thou art ever present in Thy holy Word,
