and Thou hast bestowed upon us this Word that it may serve as a counsellor in all our difficulties; be light in our darkness, wisdom in our folly, life in our death. It is Thy Word which renders Thee to us an ever present God and Saviour. Thy Word points out the way in which we should walk; Thy Word displays before us the pure and essential truth, which emanates continually from Thee; Thy Word is the stream by which we are carried to the haven of eternal life; Thou art, indeed, the way, the truth, and the life, the beginning and the ending, the Almighty. All power is Thine, both in heaven and on earth, and beside Thee there is no God.

Lord, let this great truth be deeply engraven upon our hearts. As the world recedes from the natural eye, may our prayer be Lord Jesus, receive our spirits. Wherever there is occasion to attest Thy Deity, may we with reverence adore Thee as our Lord and our God. And, though our feebleness of perception may be inadequate to the right apprehension of Thy triune nature, still may there be within our souls this tacit acknowledgment of the truth, that Thon art the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and to Thee be dominion and power, for ever and ever. Amen.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

O LORD Jesus Christ, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Hasten the period when there shall be nothing to hurt or destroy in all Thy holy mountain, but the earth be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. Lord establish Thou this reign of peace within our souls. Subdue every principle which has a selfish tendency, and reduce to perfect obedience all which Thy Word enjoins. May rapine and cruelty be ever banished from our souls, and innocence and humble dependence be established; and may that watchfulness and prudence be associated with innocence and humble dependence on Thee, which may cause the craft and subtlety of evil to be subdued, and give place to cheerfulness and humble confidence: may energy for the subjugation of evil be coupled with pure natural affection, and may innocency, gentleess, and truth, so soften all our feelings that innocence may guide them in their progress to heaven.

Lord, we see the struggle between self and the world, in the images and qualities of the untamed beasts of the earth. But we see, also, the omnipotent power of gentleness and affection: this power is acquired by all who follow and learn of Thee. All things are possible to him who so learns, and so follows: O help us to enthrone Thee in our inmost souls. Make our souls the mountain of Thy holiness; there reign supreme. Subdue all our feelings to Thy righteous will, so that there be nothing to hurt or destroy in all Thy holy mountain.

WEDNESDAY EVENING. LORD Jesus Christ, who art the God of truth, help us to keep our minds open for the reception of Thy truth, and purify the thoughts of our hearis by the inspiration of Thy Holy Spirit. May unbelief,
