OORRIGENDA, ETC., TO VOL. I. 813 BLACKCASTLK t.e., " Windsor op Blaokcastlb," Yisoountoy [I.] ( Wind^or)^ cr, 1699 ; tx, 1768. Continue note (*) a$ tinder, ** At the institution of tbis order in 1876 only three ■noh Lords were authorised, these hemg (1) Blnekbum, (2) Gordon, and (8) Wstsoo. Then came (4) Fitsgerald, in 1882, vice Gordon deceased ; (5) Mao- naghten, in 1887, vire Blackburn resigned ; (6) Morris, in 1880, vice Fltsgerald deceased. The death (3 Deo. 1800) of Sir Barnes Peacock, one of the paid members of the Judicial Committee of the PriTy Council, enabled the creation (under the Act of 1876) of tL/ourih Lord of Appeal ; and accordingly (7) Hannen was, in Jan. 1801, added to the three Lords (Watson, Maonaghten, and Morris) then existing. Then followed in quick succession (8) Bowen, in Sep. 1808| vice Hannen, resigned ; (0) Russell, in May 1804, vice Bowen, deceased) ; and (10) Davey, in Aug. 1804, vice Russell, who resigned on becoming L. Chief Justice. The clause which granted the right to a seat in the House of Lords to these Peers, during their tenure of qfiee was, shortly after the retirement^ in 1886, of Lord Blackburn, extended to the term of their life. The rank of the wives of these life Peers is (under the Act of their creation in 1876) the same as that of any hereditary Baron, but their children had, for 21 years later, no precedence. This, however, was altered by Roval warrant in 1807, when sncli children were given precedence next under those of an hereditary Baron, and above that of a Baronet."
