(extra) 20 Apvil 1SS0; Loud Puv.sident OS the Council June 1S85 to Jan. 1SS6, and again Aug. 1886, having in the interval been again (for a few weeks) Sec. for War. He m. 29 March 1S3S, Jane, da. of James Orb, of Ballygowan and Hollywood House, co. Down, by Jane, da. of Richard Stewakt of ISallymena, co. Antrim. She is C.I. Family estates.— These, in 1S83, consisted of 5,177 acres in Kent, and 11 in Sussex. Total— 5.1SS acres, worth £6,126 a year. Principal residence— Hemsted Park, near Staplehurst, Kent. CRAXFIELD. Barony. 1. " Lioxel Cranfield, Knt, blaster of the Court of r i (j o i Wards and Liveries, Keeper of the Great Wardrobe, Commissioner of the Treasury, &c., - ' was, on 9 July 1621, a: " BARON CRAN- FIELD, of Craufield, co. Bedford."( a ) On 16 Sep. 1622 he was cr. EARL OF MIDDLESEX, both which titles, on the death of his yr. s., the 3rd holder of them, 26 Oct. 1671, became extinct. On 9 Oct. following he sue. his cousin as BARON ONSLOW, a Peerage cr. 1716. On 19 June 1801 he was cr. VISCOUNT CRANLEY, of Cranley, Surrey, and EARL OF ONSLOW,( b ) co. Salop. Sir William Craxstodn, s. of John C, of Mories- I lG0 f ) toun, was Capt. of the Guards to James VI [S.], by whom he was Knighted, and having in. before 15 March 1581, Sarah, 1st da, of John CliANrfT0iiN,( c ) of Craustoun, co. Roxburgh, by Margaret, da. of Georgo Ramsay, of Dalhousie, acquired by her (whose br. d. s.p. legit.) the lauds of Cranstouu, and was cr. 17 Nov. 1609, LORD CRANSTOUN [S.], with rem. to his heirs male.(<>) He m. secondly Elizabeth Macuill, before 15 Nov. 1614 when they were both living.
