[I.], grand- son and h., being s. and h. of Sir William Pope, by Elizabeth, da. and h. of Sir Thomas Watson, of Halstead, co. Kent, which Sir William was 1st s. and h. ap. of the 1st Earl, but d. v.p. (before his father's elevation to the peerage), Aug. 1621, aged 27. He was bap. 16 Dec. 1622, at Cogges, co. Oxford. He matric. at Oxford (Ch. Ch.), 21 June 1639. He distinguished himself, as an active Royalist, during the Civil War. He m. Elizabeth, da and coheir of William Dutton, of Sherborne, co. Gloucester, by his 1st wife Elizabeth, da. of Sir Henry Baynton, of Bromhall, Wilts. See d, 6 April 1656.
