Kent, when the peerage (but not the Baronetcy) became extinct. Admou. 20 Sep. 1679, as late of Tortworth, co. Glouc. His widow, who was bap. York, Justice of the Common Pleas (1617-39), sue. his nephew Sir Thomas Dawnay, 2d Bart., in the Baronetcy [cr. 1612 with a spec, rem.) in 1641, was M.P. for co. York, 1660; for Pontefract, 1661-68 ; and was cr. 19 Feb. 16S0/1 (33 Car. II.) VISCOUNT DOWNE [!.](') He sat in the Irish Pari. 16S9 of King James II. He m. firstly Elizabeth, da. of Sir John Met. ton, Sec. to the Council of York. She d. s.p. and was bur. 21 Feb. 1662/3, at Cowick. He m. secondly (lie. Fac. 14 May 1663, he being then 35 and a widower) Dorothy (then 30 spinster), da. of William Johnson, of Wickham, co. Lincoln. He d. 1 Oct. 1695. His widow was bur. 28 May 1709, at Cowick. Will pr. June 1709. III. 1695. 2. Henry (Dawnay), Viscount Downe [1.1, s. and" h, by 2nd wife, bap. 7 June 1664 at Cowick ; was attainted bv the Pari. [I.] of James II, in 1689 ; M.P. for Pontefract, 1690-95 ; for co. York 1698-1700 and 1707-27. He m. 29 Sep. 16S5 at Gainsborough, Mildred, da. of William Godfrey, of Thornock, co. Lincoln. She, who was b. 22 and bap. 21 March 1666, at Gainsborough, and d. at Cowick, was bur. at Snaith 2 Sep. 1725, He was bur. there 21 May 1741. Will pr. at York 4 June 1741. IV. 1741. 3. Henry-Pleydell (Dawnay), Viscount Downe [I], grandson and h. being s. and h. of the Hon. John Dawnay, by Char- lotte-Louisa, da. and h. of Robert Pleydell, of Ampney Crucis, co. Glouc, which John was s. and h. ap. of the last Viscount, but d., v.p., 12 Aug. 1740, aged 53. He (») Of his fourBiirv. sisters and coheirs Frances, the third, m.
