Tho' said to have been " a man of parts and learning " he appears to have been a great gambler, losing (1635-36) £3,000 at one sitting. He m„ about 1615, Maiy, sister of Nicholas, 1st Earl op Thankt, da. of Sir John Tcfton, 1st Bart., by his second wife Christian, da. and coheir of Sir Humphrey Biiown, Justice of the Common Pleas. He hi. secondly, before 1711, Dorothy, widow of Charles (Fane), 3d Earl of Westmorland (who d. Sep. 1691), da. of Robert (Biiudenell), 2nd Earl of Cardigan) by his second wife, Anne, da. of Thomas (Savauk), 1st Eakl Riveiis. He d. 23 Nov. and was bur. 2 Dec. 1714, at Westminster Abbey, in his 64th year. Will dat. 2 Jan. 1711/2, pr, 4 Dec. 1714. His widow, who d. 26 Jan., was bur. there 6 Feb. 1739/10 (as "Countess Dow. of West- moreland "), aged 93. Will dat, 23 Dec. 1734 to 19 Aug. 1738, pr. 8 Feb. 1739/40. IV, 1714, 4- William (Constable), Viscount Dunbar and to Loud Constable [S.], only br. and h. male, aged 11 in 1665. He m. 1718. Elizabeth, 1st da. of Hugh (Clifford), 2nd Baron Clifford of Chudleigh, by Anne, da. and coheir of Sir Thomas Preston, Bart. He d. s.p. 15 Aug. 1718 at Burton afsd., when the issue male of the grantee became extinct and the title became dormant ( b ). "Will dat. 30 Aug. 1717. James Murray (older br. of William, 1st Earl of Mansfield), 2d s. of David, 5th Viscount Stormont [S.], by Margery, da. and h. of David Scott, b. about 1690 ; admitted an Advocate [S.] 1710 : M.P. for Elgin 1710-14 and one of the Commissioner for settling: the trade w-ith France, having joined the party of the exiled Stuarts was by the titular King James III. (to whose eldest son he was "Governor") cr. in 1721 EARL OF DUNBAR [S.], and, in 1725, made K.T. He d. s.p. at Naples 6 Oct. 1728.00 DUNBARTON or DUMBARTON. Earldom [S. l. Lord George Douglas, 4th s. of William, 1st I. 1675 Marquess of Douglas [S.], being his 2d s. by his second wife, Mary, da. of George (Gordon), 1st Marquess of Hcntly [S.], was 4. about 1635 ; was Page of Honour to Louis XIV., King of France, and ( a ) See " The Loyalists' Bloody Roll," vol. i, p. 194, sub " Aubigny." ( b ) There are probably numerous male descendants existing of the ancestor of the grantee, some one of whom would be entitled to this Viscountcy.
