He was nom. on 29 May 1687, K.T., being one of the eight orig. Knights of that Order.!') He accompanied James EL as a Lord of the Bedchamber into France. He m. B a y' 3 Foot in the British service, 1715, and was Envoy to the Czar of Muscovy, April 1716. Having been long absent from England he d. at Douay in Flanders Jany. 1737/8,( b ) s.p., when his honours appear to have become extinct. DUNBLANE or DUMBLANE. DUNBLANE [S.] Iu June 1673 he was made Lord High Treasurer of England and on 15 Aug. 1673, was cr. BARON OSBORNE OF KIVETON and VISCOUNT LATIMER of Danby, co. York, in which mouth he appears to have surrendered the Scotch Viscountcy in favour of his Becond s., Peregrine Osborne, mentioned below. He was cr. on 27 June 1674, EARL OF DANBY; on 9 April 1689, MARQUESS OF CARMARTHEN, and on 4 May 1694, DUKE OF LEEDS. See fuller particulars of him under that title. He d. 26 July 1712, aged 81. II. 1674. 2. Peregrlne (Osborne), Viscount Osborne of Dun- blane [S.], 2d s. of the above, in whose favour a resignation of that dignity was made which was confirmed to him 5 Dec. 1674. In Jany. 1688/9, on the death of his eldest br., he was styled Earl of Danby, till on his father's elevation to a Dukedom, in May 1694, he was styled Marquess of Carmarthen. He m firstly, about 1580, Margaret, da. and h. of Barnaby (FiTzrATiticK), 2nd Baron Utter Ossory [I.], by Joan, da. of Rowland (Eustace), Viscount Baltinglass [I]. He m. secondly, Margaret, da. of Connor (O'Brien), 3rd Earl of Thomond [I.], by his Becond wife, Ownye, da. of Turlogh Mac-i-Brien-Ara. He d. 18 Feb. 1624. ( c ) The Lordship of Dunboyne, anciently held by the family of Le Petit, was acquired iu marriage with the heiress thereof by Sir Thomas Butler, who was slain, 1329.
