He m. secondly, 4 Nov. 1858, at the Vice Regal Lodge, Dubliu, Adela Caroline Harriet, da. of Arthur Algernon (Capell), 6th Earl ok Essex, by his first wife Caroline Janetta, da. of William (Beacclerk), 8th Duke op St. Albans. She, who was 6. 4 March 1828, d. s.pm. 31 Dec. 1860, in Edinburgh. He m. 6 Dec. 1802, at 17 Arlington street, Midx., Sophia Adelaide Theodosia, da. of Charles (Andkhson-Pelham), 3d Earl of YarboRough, by Victoria Alexaudrina, da. of William (Hake), 2d Karl op Listowel [I.] She, who was b. 26 July 1840, d. 21 Sep. 1866, and was bur. at Kilwinning Abbey. 'Family Estates.— These, in 1883, consisted of 23,631 acres in co. Ayr; 5,866 in co. Lanark and 671 in Bute. Total 30,163 acres, worth £41,310 a year exclusive of minerals worth £9,520 a year. Cork, by Catharine, da. of Sir Edward Derixg, 2d Bart., was b. at Burton, co. Cork, 22 July 1683 ; sue. his eldest br. Sir Edward Perceval, 4th Bart, ft.], 9 Nov. 1691 ; mat. at Oxford (Mag. Coll.), 18 Nov. 1699 ; F.R.S. (at the age of 19), 1702 ; M.P. for co. Cork, 1703-15 ; P.C. |L] ; was 21 April 1715, cr. BARON PERCEVAL OF BURTON, co. Cork [I.] with an extended rem. to the heirs male of the body of his father/ 0 ) taking his seat 12 Nov. following. On 25 Feb. 1722/3, ho • (") No fuller description is given of this dignity. It seems a very improper one to have conferred save on one who could prove that (subject to the attainder) he was entitled to the Scotch peerage of the same designation. ( b ) A good account of this genial, popular, and most hospitable nobleman is given in Lord Lamington's " In the days of the Dandies." ( c ) Egmont (which possibly received that name from the Perceval family) is " an old ruined Castle in the parish of Churchtown, Barony of Orrery and Kilinorc, co. Cork, 3J mile3 n.n.west of Buttevant, in the midst of a fine park and very extensive plantations." Pari. Gazetteer of Ireland, 1849. See also " N. and Q.," 7th s. ii, 334, where it is stated that "William, Baron of Yvery," who sue. his father in 11 3 9 had five sons, of whom one son, " Waleran, was ancestor of the Counts of Egmont in Flanders," while the fifth son was " Richard de Percheval, ancestor to the present Earl of Egmont." ( d ) This is one of the twelve families treated of in Drummond's " Noble British Families. See vol. i, p. 77, note " a," sub " Alvanley." In the preface, however, the following very true remark is made thereon, viz., that tho' " the History of the house of Yvery by the 1st Earl of Egmont [i.e., by J. Anderson, D.D., 2 vols., 8vo., 1742], was assumed as the basis of the history of the Perceval family very little of what is stated [therein] is to be depended upon, from tho commencement, down to the 14th century." (°) The preamble to the creation of the Barony and the Earldom are in " Lodge," vol. ii, p. 260-263, where also is told the (usual) story of the honors having being pressed upon the grantee by the king.
