Stirling, s. and h. of Sir John E. of tho same (whom he sue. shortly after July 150S); was in the household of James IV. [S.] ; received a large portion of the lauds of the Earls of Mar, including the Barony of Kildrummy, &c, and was (ou the occasion of the christening of Arthur, son of the abnveuamed King) made- a Lord of Pari., being cr, 14 Jany. 1509/10, LORD ELPHINSTONE [S.j He m. before 1507, Elizabeth Berlay, Barclay, or Baklow, an English lady attached to tho Court of Margaret, Queen Consort of James IV. [S.] With that king he was slain at the battle of Flodden, 9 Sep. 1513. His widow m. (as his 3d wife) John (Forbes), 6th Lord Forbes [&], who d. 1547. II. 1513. 2. Alexander (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.], only s. and h. under age at his father's death. He m. before Feb. 1525/6, Katharine, da. of Robert (Ehskine), 4th Lord Ersklne [S.], de jure{ a ) Earl op Mah [S.], by Isabel, da. of Sir John Campbell He was slain at the battle of Pinkie 10 Sep. 1547- III. 1547. 3. Robert (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.], 1st s. and h. ; under age at his father's death. He m., before Sep. 154G, Margaret, da. and coheir of Sir Johu Drummond, of Innerpeffiy, by Lady Margaret Stewart, illegit. da. of King James IV. [S.] He d. May 1602. IV. 1602. 4- Alexander (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [8.1 b. and h., b. 28 May 1552, was v.p. made in 1599 a member of the new privy council ; an extraordinary Lord of Session and High Treasurer [S.]() holding this last office till 5 Sep. 1601, and the former one probably till 1626. The lands of Kildrummy were recovered from him by the Erskine family in 1626 as having been unlawfully in possession of the king when granted to the first Lord. P.C. [appointed by Pari.] 13 Nov. 1041, and one of the committee of estates, 1615. He m., before 10 Aug. 1579, Jean, 1st da. of William (Livingstone), 6th Loud Livingstone [S.], by Agnes, da. of Malcolm (Fleming), 3d Loud Fleming [S.] He is generally said to have d. July 1648 but appears to have d. " on Sunday, 11 Jany. 1638," at Elphinstone. V. 16c8? 5. Alexander (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.], 1st s. and h. He m., before 5 July 1608, Elizabeth, sister of James, 1st Earl or Perth [S.], da. of Patrick (Drummond), 3d Lord Drummond [S.], by his 1st wife, Elizabeth, da. of David (Lindsay), 9th Earl ok Crawi'OUD [S.J Ho d. B.p.m.B. 1649. VI. 1649. G. Alexander (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.], cousin and h. male, being s. and h. of the Hon. James Elphin- Btone, of Barns, by Margaret, da. of John Forbes, of Brux, which James was next br. to the 5th Lord. He m. his cousin (the heir of line of the family) Lilias, only da. and h. of his uncle, the 5th Lord, by Elizabeth, his wife, both abovenamed. He was fined £1,000, on 12 April 1654, by Cromwell's act of grace, and d. (shortly afterwards) Dec. 1654. VII. 1654. 7". Alexander (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.], 1st s. and h. ; served heir to Ins father, 30 May 1655. He m. Anne, da. of Alexander Burnett, Archbishop of St. Andrews.
