He m. 23 April 1670, Isabel, 1st da. of Charles (Maitland), 3d Earl op Lauderdale [S.], by Elizabeth, da. and h. of Richard Lauder, of Hatton, co. Edinburgh. She was bur. at Elphiustone, 11 Oct. 1706. He d. March 1717/8 and was lur. there. Fun. entry of both at Lyon office. IX. 1718. 9. Charles (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.J, 2d but 1st bui-v.(') s. and h., b. G Dec. 1676, at Edinburgh : Capt. in the army, serving in Flanders, from 1706, but retiring in 1720. He m. Elizabeth, sister of William, 1st Viscount Primrose [St], da. of Sir William Pbimrose, 2d Bart. [S.], by Margaret, da. of Patrick Scott, of Thirlestane. She, who was b. 18 Dec. 16S0, at Edinburgh, d. 18 Feb. 1738, aged 58. Fun. entry at Lyon office. He d. at Elphinstone, 20 Feb. 1757 in his 81st year. X. 1757. 10. Chaui.es (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.], 3d but 1st surv.( b ) s. and h. He m. in 1735, Clementina, da. and eventually sole heir of John (Fle.mint,), 6th Karl of Wig-ton [S.], being only child of his second wife, Mary, 1st da. of William (Kkith), 9th Earl Makischal [S]. He d. at Edinburgh, 2 April 1781. His widow, who, by the death of her uncle, George, Earl Marischal [S.]. 28 May 1778, became the heir of the family of Keith, d. in Harley street, Marylebone, 1 Jan. 1799, in her 80th year.( c ) XI. 1781. 11. John (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.], s. and h„ 6. Jan. 1737 ; served in the army at Canada (under Gen. Wolfe) where he was wounded : Col. of a company of invalids, 1760 ; Lieut. He m. 1762, Anne, da. of James Ruthven, sometimes considered Lord Rutiiven ok Frekland [S.], by his 2d wife, Anne, da. of James (Stuart), 2d Earl op Bute [S]. He d. 19 Aug. 1794, at Cum- bernauld House,( d ) co. Dumbarton. Admon. July 1795 and April 1802. His widow d. there 28 Oct. 1801. XII. 1794. 12. John (Elphinstone), Lord Elphinstone [S.], s. and h., b. 1764 ; entered the army about 1780, being, in 1795, Lieut. Col. of the 60th, afterwards of the 61st and subsequently of the 26th Foot, of which last, in 1806 he was Colonel ; Major-Gen. in the army, 1805. Lord Lieut, of co. Dumbarton ; Rei Peer [S.] 1S03-07. He m. 31 July 1806, at Edinburgh, Janet Hyndford, widow of Sir John Gibson-Carmichael, Bart., yst. da. of Cornelius Elliott, of Woolfelee, co. Roxburgh. He d. 20 May 1S13 and was bur. 25th at Bath Abbey, aged 49. Admon. Oct. 1813. His widow d. 23 Aug. 1825. XIII. 1813. 13 and 1. Margory, da. of Sir Gilbert Flkmino, Bart. [S.], of Farm, and d. v.p. and s.p. May 1753, at Kilcroich ; the said Marjory dying 6 Aug. 1784, in Edinburgh. ( c ) She was heir of line to her paternal race, Fleming, Earls of Wigtoun [S.], to her maternal race, Keith, Earls Marischal [S.J, as also to the senior line of the house of Drummond, being the •representative of James, 4th Earl of Perth [S.], her mother's grandfather.
