Arthur Algernon (Capel, afterwards Capei.l)i Earl of Essex, kc, nephew anil h., being s. and h. of the Hon. John Thomas Cakel, by Caroline, da. of Henry (Paget), 1st Eaiil ok USBRTDQH, which John Thomas, who was 2d s. of the 4th Earl (being his lsts. by his 2d wife above- named) and br. of the half blood to the late Earl, d. 5 March 1819, in his 50th year. He was b. 28 Jan. 1803, at Holmbush, near Horsham, Sussex ; ed. at Eton, 1817 ; resumed the name of Capcll, in lieu of that of Capel, by royal lie. 23 July 1S80. He Hi. firstly 14 July 1825, at St. James, Westm., Caroline Janetta, 3d. da. of William (Bkauclehk), 8th Duke ok St. Ai.dans, by his 2d wife, Maria Janetta, da. and h. of John NeltHOBTE. She, who was b. 28 June 1S04, d. 22 Aug. 1862, aged 58 at Cassiobury Park. He m. secondly, 3 June 1863, at Trinity Church, Chelsea, Louisa Caroline Elizabeth, sister of Hichard Edmund St. Lawrence, 9th Earl ok Cork [I.], and 1st da. of Charles Boyle, Uylcd Viscount Dungahvan, by Catherine, ( a ) Hampton Court was sold by him in 1808. Some account thereof with several plates is in Robinson's " Mansions of Herefordshire," 1873, p. 148. ( b ) A friend of the Prince of Wales, of the same politics and pursuits, he was, as Lord Maiden, among " the men of fashion of that period (1780-99.) As to his tasto for the " violincillo " see vol. i, p. 352, note " a," sub " Bessborough." ( c ) She appeared first on the stage as an actress in 1813, excelling in low comedy. Her unrivalled voice aB a ballad singer will, however, be that by which she will bo remembered. It is (in a Bomewhat peculiar manner) thus alluded to on her mon. inscr. at Watford, where, however, she is not buried. "Rest undisturbed within this peaceful shrine, Till Angels wake thee with a note like thine." The age of 91 is on the monument at Watford but perhaps with no greater than the statement that she is buried within it.
