Jan. 1800. He m. secondly, 28 Sep. 1799, Elizabeth, yst. da. of Wrightson Md.ndy, of Markeatou, co. Derby, by Anne, da. of Robert BuRDETT, of Foremark, co. Derby. She d. s.p. 22 Feb. 1827. He d. (some ten weeks later) at Hastings 2 May 1827, aged 70. Both were bur. at Bredon afsd. Will pr. June 1827 and May 1840. Stafford (br. of John, 1st Viscount Dudley and Ward), by Elizabeth, da. of John Hawkes. She d. 4 March 1812, and was bur. at Staunton Harold. He m. secondly, 28 Sep. 1829, Sarah, da. of William Davy. She d. s.p. 30 June 1835, at Chartley Castle, and was bur. at Staunton. Her admon. July 1836. The Earl d. 2 Oct. 1842, aged 81, at Chartley Castle, and was bur. the 11th at Staunton.(b) W ill pr. Both were bur. at Staunton Harold.] (») Chartley was inherited from the Devereux family together with the Barony of de Ferrers (often called Ferrers de Chartley) by the first Earl Ferrers, on whose death in 1717 it became alienated from that Barony and passed (with the 18th century Earldom) to bis heir male, who, however, was not heir general, either to the Earl or to the Lords de Ferrers, the ancient owners of Chartley. " The goodly manor place of Chartley " was destroyed by fire in July 1781 and a modern house called " Chartley Castle " erected near its site. (l>) It is stated in the "Stem.
