(1390), 14 Ric. II., to 25 Aug. (1404), 5 Hen. IV.( J ) In 1398 he was found coheir to Maud, Countess of Northumberland (da. of Thomas. Lord Lucy), as to her Bhare in the estates of her grandmother, Margaret, sister of Joan, Lady Fitz Walter, da. and coheir of Thomas, Lord Multon of Egremont, both abovtuamcd. Ho m. before April 1390 (at which (late she was in her 12th year) Joan, apparently de jure suojure, Baroness Devereux, beiug sister and heir (1393 and then aged 17) of John, Lord Devereux, and da. of John (Devereux), Lokd Devkueux, by Margaret, his wife. He d. 16 May (1106), 7 Hen. IV. Inq. pist mortem, at Sudbury 8 Hen. IV. Will dat. at York, directing his burial to be at Henham. His widow m. (as his third wife) before 1409 Hugh (Bunnell), Lord Burnell, who d. s.p.m.s. 27 Nov. 1420. She was one of the Ladies for whom robes of the Order of the Garter^') were prepared, firstly in 1390 and 1399, as " Lady Fitz Walter " and secondly, in 1409, after her remarriage as the " Lady de Burnell." She rf. 11 May (1109), 10 Hen. IV., and was bur. at Duumow afsd. Inq. pust mortem, (together with that of her son) 6 Nov. (1422), 1 Hen. VI. VI. 1406. 6. Humphrey (Fitz- Walter), Lord Fitz-Walter, s. and h., who, apparently, on the death of his mother, in 1409, would also have been Lord Devereux. He was b. at Penshurst, co. Kent, 18 Oct. 1398, and was about eight years old at his father's death. He d. under age and num. 1 Sep. (1415), 3 Hen. V. Inq. post mortem 6 Nov. (1422), 1 Hen. VI., at Newmarket. VII. 1415. 7. Walter (Fitz-Walter), Lord Fitz-Walter, and, apparently, Lord Devereux, br. andh., b. 22 June (St. Alban's day), 1401,atWoodham Walters, and whilestill under age (aswcll as afterwards) distinguished himself greatly in the wars with France, receiving large grants of laud (in tail male) in Normandy. He was sum. to Pari, from 12 July (1429), 7 Hen. VI. to 27 Nov. (1430), 9 Hen. VI. He m. before 1430, Elizabeth, widow of William Massey, da. of ( — ) Chideocke. He d. in the prime of life, a. p.m. (being apparently the last heir male of his family), 25 Nov. 1431, was bur. at Dunmow. Inq. post mortem, at Henhow, Suffolk, 20 April (1432), 10 Hen. VI. Will pr. 10 Nov. 1432. His widow d. 14 June 1464. Inq. post mortem, at Chelsworth, Suffolk, 27 July (1464), 4 Ed. IV. It is quite clear that this Philippa (whose third husband was born in 1373) was but the step mother of the Lord Fitz Walter who was born (five years earlier) in 1368 and who doubtless was the child of the (first) marriage which took place 1362. (t>) Her monument is eugraved in " Sand/ord." On it are the arms of her three husbands impaling Mohun. (') See note " a " next above, as to the impossibility of his mother being the seeond wife of his father. ( d ) There is proof in the rolls of Pari, of his sitting. (°) Beltz's " Order of the Garter," pp. ccxxij and ccxxiij, and p. 252, not 4. The lady's father, Lord Devereux {d. 1393), had been a K G. but neither of her husbands received that honour. There appear, however, to be ladies similarly honoured, who were in no way connected with the order, e.g., " the lady de Tricet " in 1390, i.e., Elizabeth, da. and h. of Sir Philip Timbury, relict of Thomas Swiubourne and widow of Sir Thomas Trivet. ( f ) Her three daughters were found her coheirs of whom the first two were by William Massy " another husband ") while the youngest (only) was by Lord Fitz Walter. Their names were (1) Anne, wife of Thomas Radclyffe, " Esq." ; (2) Joauna.'wife of Sir Robert Fiennea— (both which ladies were then 36 years old and upwards) and (3)
