[S.], by whom, apparently, about 1445,( a ) he was a: a Peer of Pari, as LORD FLEMING [S.] lie occurs iu the records of Pari. [S.J 11 Oct. 1466, and had a safe conduct to visit England 2 Nov. 1481. He m. firstly Janet, 3d da. of James (DocolasI, 7th Earl of Douglas [S.], by Beatrix, da. of Henry (Sinclair), Eaul of Orkney [S.j He m. secondly Margaret, da. of James Lindsay, of Coviugtoun. He d. 119 1. II. 1494. 2. John (Fleming), Loud Fleming [S.], grandson and h., being 2d s. but eventually h. of Malcolm Flemino, by Euphemia, da. of James (Livingston), Loud Livingston' [8.J which Malcolm was s. and h. ap. of the first Lord (by his first wife) but d. v. p. some date after Oct. 1474. He sac. his cider br- Sir David Fleming, of Muuycabo, somo date after 14S0. He appears among the records of Pari. [S.], 31 Aug. 1193 ; was served heir to his grandfather in 1500 and had a charter of Monycabo, 8 May 1509. He was on several embassies to France ; was Chamberlain of Scotland from, or before, 1517 till his death ; and was one of the three noblemen appointed in Nov, 1523 to abide with the King [S.] He m. firstly, before 5 May 1496, Euphemia, 5th da. of David (Ducmmond), 1st Loud Duummond [S.], by Elizabeth, da. of Alexander (Lindsay), 4th Earl of Crawford [S.J She was poisoned (with two of her sisters) 1501 and fair, at Dunblane.( b ) He m. secondly (charter 12 March 1508/9), Margaret, 1st da. of Matthew (Stewart), 2d Eakl of Lennox [S.], by Elizabeth, da. of James (Hamilton), Lord Hamilton [S.] She was divorced before 26 Oct. 151(5.( 0 J lie IB. thirdly Agnes Sojiekville. He d. 1 Nov. 1524, being assassinated while hawking. His widow was living 17 Dec. 1526. III. 1524. 3. Malcolm (Fleming), Lord Fleming [S.], s. and h., by first wife, 6. about 1494; Chamberlain [S.], 1524. He waa taken prisoner by the English at the rout of Solway Nov. 1542, but released at a ransom of 1,000 marks, 1 July 1543. He m. (dispensation 26 Feb. 1524/5), Lady Johanna Stkwart, illegit. da. of King James IV. [S.], by Isabel, da. of James (Stewart), Eaul of Buciian [S.] He d. 10 Sep. 1547, in his 53d year, being slain at the battle of Pinkie. IV. 1547. 4. James (Fleming), Lord Fleming IS.J s. and K, b. about 1535 ; Chamberlain [S.], 10 March 1553; Guardian of the east and middle marches. He m. before 14 Dec. 1553, Barbara, 1st da. of James (Hamilton), 2d Earl of Arran [S.J, Due dc Chaltllhermdt in France, Regent [S.J, by Margaret, da. of James (Douglas), 1st Earl of Morton [S.J He was one of the eight representatives of Scotland, at Paris, at the marriage of the Queen of Scots with the Dauphin, 24 April 1558. Four of these, of whom he was one, are supposed to have been poisoned.^) He d. B.p.m.,C) at Paris, 15 Dec. 1558, in his 24th year. (") In the " Decreet of Rankiny " [S.J, 1606, the Barony of Fleming is placed fourth, viz., below " Lindsay " " Forbes " and " Glamis " and next above " Saltoim " of which the creation was 1445.
