He was b. 12 July 1628, and was, 29 Dec. 1660, restored as Dukb of Norfolk. He d. unm. at Padua, 13 Dec. 1677. XV. 1677. 15. I-, b. 5 June 1686, and d- s.p. 20 Sep. 1777, when the Dukedom of Norfolk and the greater part of his dignities devolved on his cousin ami heir male, but the Baronies of Mowbray, Segrave, Furnivall, Strange dc Blackmere, and Talbot,^) fell into abeyance between his nieces and coheirs,( b ) the heirs general. ( a ) To these may (possibly) be added (1) the Barony of Howard [1470] if not extinguished (which hi all probability it is) by the attainder of 14S5 as also (2) the Barony of Arundel (1377) if it be not (which in all probability it is) the same Barony as that of Maltravers and so consequently (together with Fitz-AJan Clun and Oswoldeatre) annexed by net of Pari., 3 Car. I., to the Earldom of Arundel. See vol. i, p. 156, note "b," sub "Arundel." ( b ) These were the daughters (or their issue) of his yst. br., Philip Howard, 5th son of Lord Thomas Howard, who was yr. s. of Henry, 6th (1677-84) Duke of Norfolk, abovenamed, viz. (1) Winifred b. 31 Aug. 1726, in. Oct. 1749, William Stourton, after- wards (1753-81) 15th Baron Stourton, and d. 15 July 1753, leaving as. and h., Charles Philip, 16th (1781 — 1816) Baron Stourton in favour of whose great grandson and h., the 1 9th Baron, the abeyance of the Baronies of Mowbray and Segrave was terminated in 1878 (2) Anne, b. 29 Aug. 1742, m. 19 April 1762, Robert Edward (Petre), 9th Baron Petre of Writtle, and d. 16 Jan. 1787, being ancestress of tho present Baron Petre who in her right is coheir (heir to a moiety) of the Baronies of Furnivall, Strange de Blackmere and Talbot.
