(d. 1906) d. of the 4th Earl Spencer K.G., 1881; 2nd, Eleanor, d. of Matthew Arnold and widow of Hon’ble A. Wodehouse, 1909; educ: Rugby; Sub-Lieut., Coldstream Guards, 1873; Lord-in-Waiting to H.M. Sandur, Raja of; Srimant Venkat Rao Sahib, Hindu Rao Ghorapadi Mamalusat Madar Senapathi, b. 1892; succeeded to the State as a minor the same year; installed on the gaddi, 1913; m. Princess Tara Rajee of Akkalkot, 1908; enjoys full powers within his own State which is under the political supervision of the Collector of Bellary, Address: Sandur, Bellary District, Madras Presidency.

Sanjana, Shams-Ul-Ulema Dastur Darab, Peshotan; b. in Bombay,. 1857; educ: Proprietory High School and Elphinstone College, Bombay; B.A., 1880; M.A., 1889; and a few years after the degree of Ph.D.; was Examiner in Persian; is a Member of the German Oriental Society; Principal and Professor of Pahalavy, ancient Persian, in Sir Jamastjee Madrassa, 1899. Publications: Zarathushtra in the Gathas and in the Greek and Roman Classics; “Pahlavi Dinkard”. Address: Bombay, India.

Sankaran Nair, Hon’ble Justice Sir Chetur, Kt. (1912), B.A., B.L., C.I.E. (1904), Judge, High Court, Madras; a prominent member of the Nair Community of Malabar; b. 1857; educ: various High Schools, and the Presidency College, Madras; studied under veteran educationists like the late Mr. Edmund Thompson and W. A. Porter: passed B.A., 1877; B.L., 1879; enrolled as Vakil, High Court, 1880; joined service as District Munsiff; resigned and commenced practice in Madras; appointed by the Madras Government as a Member of the Committee to enquire into the State of Malabar, 1884; acted on several other Commissions; was of considerable help to the Government of Madras for the passing of the Malabar Tenants’ Improvement Bill; Fellow, Madras University; nominated to the Madras Legislative Council, 1890; was instrumental in getting the Malabar Marriage Act enacted, being as yet the first instance of a piece of social legislation enacted by the Legislative Council through
