(9) Where the letters in the sign shown in diagram No. 304 are fitted with white reflectors in accordance with paragraph (4) of this Regulation, the sign shall also be fitted with red reflectors and the number, size and arrangement thereof shall be as indicated in the said diagram.

(10) Any sign shown in the First Schedule may be illuminated by the use of any reflecting material

(a) on the surface thereof, provided no such material is used on the surface of any part of the sign consisting of any black letter, numeral, symbol, arrow or border; or

(b) on the surface of any triangle, ringed triangle, ring or disc so long as any colour prescribed for the sign, triangle, ringed triangle, ring or disc by these Regulations is not thereby affected:

Provided that nothing in this paragraph shall prevent the illumination of any such sign by the use of white reflecting material on any part of the sign consisting of any black letter, numeral, symbol or arrow.

Permitted use of certain badges or devices

20. There may be included in or attached to any sign shown in any of the diagrams Nos. 158 and 481 to 488 inclusive in the First Schedule the arms, badge or other device of an approved Organisation, and where such arms, badge or other device are included in any sign shown in diagram No. 158, the background to the reflectors may be of the colour or colours adopted by the approved Organisation.

Section IV

Traffic Signs shown in Second Schedule

Carriageway markings

21.(1) A traffic sign consisting of a line or mark (hereinafter referred to as a "carriageway marking") placed on the carriageway of any road for conveying a warning, a requirement or information of the description specified under a diagram set out in the Second Schedule to these Regulations shall be of the size and type shown in the diagram relating to that warning, requirement or information:

Provided that in diagram No. RM7—

(a) the dimensions indicated in brackets against dimensions not so indicated may be treated as an alternative to the last mentioned dimensions; and

(b) all the dimensions not indicated in brackets may be increased by 50 per cent.

(2) Any carriageway marking shown in any of the diagrams Nos. RM2, RM4, RM5 and RM6 may have studs incorporating reflectors fitted to the marking and studs shown in diagram No. RM3 may have reflectors incorporated therein.

Colour and height above carriageway of markings

22.(1) Carriageway markings and studs fitted thereto shall be white, silver or light grey in colour, and reflectors incorporated in such studs shall be white in colour or, where they are incorporated in studs fitted to the carriageway marking shown in RM6 to indicate the near side edge of the carriageway, red in colour.
