Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United APP¤>P¥'i¤*i°¤¤· States of America in Congress assembled, That the following sums be, and the same are hereby, appropriated, out of any money m the Treasury support of tho not otherwise appropriated, for the support of the Army for the year Amy- - ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and eighty-two, as follows: 0 oinnianding For expenses of the Commanding General’s office, two thousand live G¢¤¤f·¤l’ <>&l•¤<>· hundred dollars _ _ Recruiting. For expenses of recruiting and transportation of recruits from rendezvous to depot, ninety-seven thousand dollars, And no money appropriated by this act shall be paid for recruiting the Army beyond the number of twenty-five thousand enlisted men, including Indian scouts and hospital-stewards; and thereafter there shall be no more than twenty-five thousand enlisted men in the Army at any one time, unless Eulistments, sig- otherwise authorized by law. Nothing, however, in this act shall be ¤**1S°“l°°· construed to prevent enlistments for the Signal Service, which shall hereafter be maintained, as now organized and as provided by law, with a force of enlisted men not exceeding five hundred. PAY DEPARTMENT. Pay. Fon PAY or run ARMY: For one General, one Lieutenant-General, 0H10m- three major- generals, sixteen brigadier-generals, thirty-nine aids-decamp, in addition to pay in the line, sixty-eight colonels, eighty-ve lieutenant-colonels, two hundred and forty-three majors, three hundred and twelve captains, mounted, three hundred and six captains, not mounted, thirty-four chaplains, twenty-one storekeepers, forty adjutants, forty regimental quartermasters, adjutant and quartermaster of Engineer Battalion, in addition to pay in the line, two hundred and two first lieutenants, mounted, three hundred and sixty nrst lieutenants, not mounted, one hundred and forty-eight second lieutenants, mounted, three hundred and five second lieutenants, not mounted; to one hundred and eighty acting assistant commissaries of subsistence, in addition . to pay in line, to oiilcers of foot regiments while on duty which requires them to be mounted, to the oiiiicer in charge of public buildings and grounds in Washington, and to the examiner of State claims in the Additional pay. office of the Secretary of War; additional pay to officers for length of service, to be paid with their current monthly pay, and the actual time of service in the Army or Navy, or both, shall be allowed all officers in Mon, computing their pay; pay to enlisted men for length of service, payable Ofhcers, retired. with their current monthly pay; retired onicers; for the payment of any such officers as may be in service, either upon the active or retired list, during the year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and eighty- two, in excess of the numbers for each class provided for in this act; enlisted men of all grades, not exceeding twenty-five thousand men; tive hundred enlisted men of the Signal Corps; the allowances for travel, retamed pay, and clothing not drawn, payable to enlisted men Interest on do- on discharge; two retired ordnance sergeants; and for interest on deposits tr enlisted posits of enlisted men, eleven million five hundred and forty-eight thoum°¤· sand six hundred and one dollars and dfty-five cents. · Mileage.
