of 1923, as amended and compensation of employees paid by the hour who shall be subject to the provisions of the Act entitled "An Act to regulate and fix rates of pay for employees and officers of the Government Printing Office," approved June 7, 1924 (U . S. C ., title 44, sec . 40), $550,000 : Provided, That for the purpose of conforming to section 3 of this Act this appropriation shall be considered a sepa- rate appropriation unit . For furniture and fixtures, typewriters, carpets, labor-saving machines and accessories, time stamps, adding and numbering machines, awnings, curtains, books of reference ; directories, books, misce llaneo us off ice an d des k supp lies, paper, twine , glu e, env elopes , postage, car fares, soap, towels, disinfectants, and ice ; drayage, e xpres s, fre ight, teleph one an d tel egraph servi ce ; tr avelin g expe nses (not to exceed $200) ; repairs to buildings, elevators, and machinery ; preserving sanitary condition of building ; light, heat, and power ; stationery and office printing, including blanks, price lists, and bibli- ographies, $100,000 ; for catalogues and indexes, not exceeding $34,800 ; for supplying books to depository libraries, $76,000 ; in all, $210,800 : Provided; That no part of this sum shall be used to supply to de posito ry lib raries any docume nts, b ooks, or oth er pr inted matter not requested by such libraries, and the requests therefor shall be subject to approval by the Superintendent of Documents . In order to keep the expenditures for printing and binding for the fiscal year 1933 within or under the appropriations for such fiscal year, the heads of the various executive departments and independent establishments are authorized to discontinue the printing of annual' or special reports under their respective jurisdictions : Provided, That where the printing of such reports is discontinued the original copy thereof shall be kept on file in the offices of the heads of the respective departments or independent establishment s for public inspe ction . Purchases may be made from the foregoing appropriation under the " Government Printing Office," as provided for in the Printing Act approved January 12, 1895, and without reference to section 4 of the Act approved June 17, 1910 (U . S . C ., title 41, sec . 7), con-' cerning purchases for executive departments . SEC . 2 . No part of the funds herein appropriated shall he used for the maintenance or care of private vehicles . In expending appropriations or portions of app ropria- tions, contained in this Act, for the payment for personal services in the Distr ict of C olumb ia i n acc orda nce w ith the Class ific ation Act of 1923, as amended, the average of the salaries of the total number of persons under any grade in the Botanic Garden, the Library of Vol 43 p .558 .
