PAY OF CIVIL EMPLOYEES, MARINE CO RPS Pay of civil force : For personal services in the District of Colum- bia, as follows Offices of the Major General C ommandant and a djutant inspec tor, $108,380 ; Office of paymaster, $45,300 ; Office of the quartermaster, $118,540 ; in all, $272,220 : Provided, That the total number of enlisted men on duty at Marine Corps headquarters on May 7, 1930, shall not be increased, and in lieu of enlisted men whose services at such headquarters shall be terminated for any cause prior to July 1, 1937, their places may be filled by civilians, for the pay of whom, in accordance with the Classification Act of 1923 , as ame nded , ei ther or both the app ropr iati ons "Pay, Marine Corps" and "General expenses, Marine Corps" shall be avai lable . GENERAL EXPENSES, MARINE CORPS For eve ry exp enditu re req uisite for, a nd inc ident to, the autho rized work of the Marine Corps, other than as appropriated for under the headings of pay and salaries, as follows : For provisions, subsistence, b oard and lodgin g of enlisted me n, recruits and recruiting parties, and applicants for enlistment, c ash allowance for lodging and subsistence to enlisted men traveling on duty ; ice, ice machines and their maintenance, $2,657,348 ; For clothing for enlisted men, $889,200 ; For fuel, heat, light, and power, including sales to officers, $457,- 000 ; For military supplies and equipment, including their purchase, repair, preservation, and handling ; recreational, school, educational, library, musical, amusement, field sport and gymnasium supplies, equipment, services, and incidental expenses ; purchase and marking of prizes for excellence in gunnery and rifle practice, good-conduct badges, medals, and but tons awarded t o officers and enlisted men by the Government for conspicuous, gallant, and special service ; rent al and maintena nce of target r anges and entr ance fees for c om- petitions, $516,877 . For transportation of troops and applicants for enlistment, includ- ing cash in lieu of ferriage and transfers en route ; toilet kits for issu e to recruits u pon their first enlistment an d other inciden tal expenses of the recruiting service ; and for transportation for depend- ents of officers and enlisted men, including travel had during the fiscal years 1935 and 1936, but not in excess of from the last duty station to home, in connection with retirement, $300,000 ; For repairs and improvements to barracks, quarters, and other public buildings at posts and stations ; for the renting, leasing, and improvement of buildings in the District of Columbia, and at such other places as the public exigencies require, and the erection of temporary buildings upon the approval of the Secretary of the Navy at a total cost of not to exceed $10,000 during the year, $400,000 ; For forage and stabling of public animals and the authorized number of officers' horses, $25,000 ; For m isce llan eous sup plie s, m ater ial, equ ipme nt, personal and othe r serv ices, and fo r other incid ental expens es for the Ma rine C orps not otherwise provided for ; purchase, repair, and exchange of type- writers and calculating machines ; purchase and repair of furniture and fixtures ; repair of motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicles ; and purchase, exchange, and repair of horse-drawn passenger-carry- ing and other vehicles, including parts ; vete rina ry s ervi ces and Civil force at head- quart ers .
