Gallinger Hospital, personal services. 75TH CONGRESS, 1sT SES SION -CH . 403-JUNE 29, 1937 Hygiene and sanitation, public schools, salaries : For personal services i n the cond uct of hyg iene and s anitation work in the public s chools, in cluding the necessary expenses of maintai ning free dental clinics, and the establishment of one additional clinic, $111,060 : Pro- vided, That of the persons employed as medical inspectors one shall b e a woman, four shall be dentis ts, and fo ur shall b e of the c olored race, and that of the graduate nurses employed as public-school nurses three shall be of the colored race. For maintenance of laboratories, including reference books and p eriodicals , apparatus , equipmen t, and nec essary con tingent an d mis- cellaneous expenses, $7,890 . For contingent expenses incident to the enforcement of an Act relating to the adulteration of foods and drugs in the District of Columbia approved February 17, 1898 (30 Stat ., pp . 246-248), an Act to prevent the adulteration of candy in the District of Columbia, approved May 5, 1898 (30 Stat ., p . 398), an Act for preventing the manufacture, sale, or transportation of adulterated or misbranded or poisonous or deleterious foods, drugs, medicines, and liquors, and for regulating traffic therein, and for other purposes, approved June 30, 1906 (34 Stat ., pp . 768-772), and an Act to regulate, within the District of Columbia, the sale of milk, cream, and ice cream, and for other purposes, approved February 27, 1925 (43 Stat ., pp . 1004-1008), including traveling and other necessary expenses of dairy-farm inspectors, and car tokens and passes for nurses, sanitary inspectors and food inspectors ; and including not to exceed $200 for special services in detecting adulteration of drugs and foods, including candy and milk, $7,000 : Provided, That inspectors of dairy farms may receive an allowance for furnishing privately owned motor v ehicles in the perfor mance of o fficial du ties at th e rate of not to exceed $312 per annum for each inspector . For maintenance and operation of motor ambulances and motor vehicles, $800 . Child welfare and hygiene : For maintaining a child-hygiene serv- ice, including the establishment and maintenance of child-welfare stati ons for clinical ex aminations, advice in the care of child ren under six years of age, payment for personal services, rent, fuel, periodicals, and supplies, $25,000 : Provided, That the Commissioners may accept su ch volu nteer s ervices as the y may d eem ex pedient in con nection wit h the esta blishment and mainte nance of t he service herein aut hor- ized : Provided further, That this shall not be construed to authorize the expenditure or the payment of any money on account of any such volunteer service . For the following hospital a nd sanator ia, which, on and af ter July 1, 1937, shall be under the direction and control of the Health Depart- ment of the District of Columbia and subject to the supervision of the Board of Commissioners Tuberculosis Sanatoria : For personal services, $325,440 . For provi sions, fue l forage, h arness, an d vehicles , and repa irs to same, gas, water, ice, shoes, clothing, dry goods, tailoring, drugs and medical supplies, furniture and bedding, kitchen utensils, medical books, school books, classroom supplies, books of reference, and per iodical s not t o excee d $500, mainte nance o f moto r truck s, and other necessary items, $203,000 . For repairs and improvements to buildings and grounds, including roads and sidewalks, $13,000 . Gallinger Municipal Hospital : For personal services, including not to exceed $2,000 for temporary labor, $468,560, of which $13,000 shall be available for out-patient relief of the poor including medical and surgical supplies, artificial limbs, and pay of physicians .
