institution truly began with the orpxnization of America's first professional baseball team in 1869; and Whereas, the year 1969 marks the one-hundredth anniversary of orpinized professional baseball in the United States and is baseball's centennial year; and AVhereas, the playin<>: of the P\)rtieth All-Star Baseball Game, on July 22. 1969, in Washington, District of Columbia, together with related activities and observances in Washington and throughout the country, is the occasion for the special celebration of baseball's centennial year; and Whereas, it is fitting that appropriate recognition be given to the many oontributions which baseball has made to the American way of life both as a sport and as an expression of the American spirit: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Represenfat'rves {the Senate concurring), That, to commemorate the one-hundredth anniversary in 1969 of the birth of organized baseball, the Congress of the United States officially recognizes the year 1969 as baseball's centennial year and extends its congratulations and best wishes to the Commissioner of Baseball, the President of the National I^eague, the President of the American League, the twelve teams of the National League, and the twelve teams of the American League, and to the several minor leagues and all other organizations and individuals participating in or connected with organized baseball.
