Adding images to pages

edit

@Chrisguise, thanks as always for all the work you do. This was my first time adding images for a scan and I noticed you changed it. What mistake did I make? I just want to know for the future so I don't make the same error again. Thanks! --FPTI (talk) 21:01, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't think you'd done anything wrong in general, more a case of me rushing in instead of checking properly.
I haven't been back to check the pages, so am going from memory here (with apologies if incorrect).
The required width of the image needs to be included in the [[file:.....]] statement. I think I read somewhere in the help/guidance that the nominal page width is 600px, so I generally pitch 'full page' images at about 550px. Smaller images are sized accordingly to reflect the layout of the book.
I picked up the work as it was in the 'to fix' category on the 'Monthly Challenge' page. I only looked at the cover image (page marked as 'problematic') and didn't spot that someone (you) had done some of the images already, so I just did all of them. When I realised the duplication, I only changed to my versions for consistency of appearance (my images are noticeably less colourful than yours). I got mine from the .jp2 folder on the Internet Archive page, and other than converting to the right file type then cropping them, I don't recall doing any other processing.
The title page text I removed using one of the multiple websites that offer this capability. I was in two minds whether to do this or not, but since you'd taken the trouble to transcribe it, I did. Regards Chrisguise (talk) 10:20, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
