Created by Albert Levi Burt (1843–1913), this New York City publishing house ran from 1883 to 1937. The company was incorporated in 1902 facilitating the change from "A. L. Burt" to "A. L. Burt Company". Its street addresses changed over time:

  • 1883–1888: 162 William Street
  • 1888–1889: 56 Beekman Street
  • 1889–1896: 66 Reade Street
  • 1896–1900: 97 Reade Street
  • 1900–1910: 52-58 Duane Street
  • 1910–1937: 114-120 East 23rd Street
