(Redirected from Portal:Bible)

The Bible is any one of the collections of the primary religious texts of Judaism and Christianity. There is no common version of the Bible, as the contents and the order of the individual books (Biblical canon) vary among denominations. The Hebrew and Christian Bibles are also important to other Abrahamic religions, including Islam and the Bahá'í Faith, but those religions do not regard them as central religious texts. Translations of the Bible edit

Books of the Bible edit

Tanakh / Old Testament edit

These books form the Hebrew / Jewish biblical canon, and are also the uncontested books of the Christian Old Testament.

New Testament edit

These books are non-canonical to Judaism, but are part of the biblical canon of all mainstream Christian denominations, including Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox churches.

Deuterocanonicals / Apocrypha edit

These books are part of the biblical canon in some Christian denominations, but are rejected by other denominations. In particular these works are generally either accepted by Catholic and Orthodox churches but rejected by Protestants, or are canonical in the Ethiopian Orthodox church but rejected in all other mainstream denominations.

Some denominations, such as the Church of England, consider these books to be valuable religious writings despite not considering them to be part of biblical canon.

Pseudepigrapha edit

These books have been listed among the biblical canon in some historical writings, but are not considered canonical by any contemporary Christian denomination.
