The text is attributed to "F." by Formby in the TOC. It is an excerpt from a slightly longer poem, titled "A Story of Heaven", and beginning "Before a Lowland cottage", which is credited to Thomas Rawson Taylor.

The poem beginning

'Before a Lowland cottage
With climbing roses gay'

was composed by the late Rev J. R. Taylor, and is to be found in a small book, entitled Juvenile Tales for Boys and Girls, by E. Ryley and others, and was published at Halifax, by Milner and Sowerby, in 1851—Edith
