I'm sorry but it's a bad translation: "leaves" is "lea" + "eaves" only literally, not by the real meaning of the words… Mayakovskiy created a pun on russian word "leaves" (or, better to say, "small leaves": "лист" -> "листочки") which formed from the word "foxs" ("лис") + "dots" ("точки"). The translation completely changed the meaning. I think we should add a word by word translation at least in case of information purposes:

    The leaves.
    After the lines of foxes –
    the dots…

Also the translation probably needs transcription of the problematic words as follows:

     [Listochki].
     After lines of [lis] -
     [tochki].

or the straight transliteration from russian into english

     Listochki.
     Posle strochek lis -
     tochki.
