Lua error on Main pageEdit
- @EncycloPetey: It looks like the bot that's supposed to update Module:Monthly Challenge daily stats/data/2021-08 hasn't run yet. I've put in a check that prevents the big red Lua error from appearing until we get the underlying issue addressed. Xover (talk) 06:35, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
How can new proverbs, recently published by ordinary people, be added to this database? I have a file of 300 beautiful proverbs, and they are translated into seven languages, and I have been given permission to publish them, please. ששון (talk) 22:18, 1 August 2021 (UTC)https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Wikisource:Scriptorium#New_proverbs
Liking to Wikisource from Wikipedia mainEdit
Does anyone know hot to link to a Wikisource document from Wikipedia main without using a url address? In particular I'm trying to link to Continental Association. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:14, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Gwillhickers: Try s:Continental Association. Incidentally, you're generally better off asking questions at the Scriptorium, our version of the Village Pump, since very few people watchlist the Main Page here. Xover (talk) 19:55, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Text in the Collaboration boxEdit
I took a new editor through the process of proofreading a page the other day, and I stumbled upon a problem: He couldn't figure out where to start. Obviously, it's not an insurmountable problem when you have an existing contributor to set you on the right path, but it is a problem for the casual person dropping by.
I'd like to suggest that we change Template:Collaboration to include an invitation. Right now, it only says "The project is X" with a status report, and I think it would be better to add something that says something like "You can help with this project today by reading the directions and proofreading part of the current text".
The Challenge and POTM pages would also benefit from updating some of their impersonal language (e.g., "Each month, the Wikisource community selects a few texts to proofread and validate" – Newcomers do not feel like they are part of "the Wikisource community", so this sounds like "Each month, somebody who is not you selects a few texts to proofread and validate"). - @WhatamIdoing Thank you for your suggestions and insight into how the phrasing can discourage new users. I've changed the template text on the Main Page for the Monthly Challenge and revised the intro text in the Monthly Challenge header. What do you think of them now?
