Were these published? In Adventure 1924? Otherwise, when and where? Can we get an appropriate copyright tag?--Prosfilaes (talk) 01:10, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- Both Adventure letters were published in Adventure on dates in the titles (according to The Neverending Hunt, a Howard bibliography) and these issues had their copyright renewed - see CCE Periodical Renewals 1951 (GIF file). It is listed in Copyright & Ownership Staus of the Works and Words of Robert E. Howard as public domain (which I have been using as a guide for this) and both have been reprinted recently (including in the Lulu book West is West & Others, which I used as my source) as public domain, without legal problems. So, I'm sure they are public domain but I'm not sure about the precise tag at the moment. I'll work on it. - AdamBMorgan (talk) 12:44, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- Given the current requirement of a written copyright transfer, the copyright of Howard's letter would stay with him and thus would have needed to be separately renewed. But the copyright on Dr. Twomey's response would probably be a work for hire, and renewed along with the magazine. Reprinting is hardly an evidence of public domain; it frequently just means that copyright holder is not attentive, and you would have to be very attentive to catch all the stuff in various self-printed books.--Prosfilaes (talk) 20:12, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- I've removed both responses and created copies at wikilivres. I'm not absolutely sure about Canadian copyright law but, as long as wikilivres falls under the heading "Libraries, Archives and Museums", excerpts from old periodicals seem to be allowed. - AdamBMorgan (talk) 13:13, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
