'iot, aka. "Image of Text", is a specialised template for the extremely rare occasions where there is no other option than using an image of text. This is extremely rarely the case, so if you're considering using this template it is most likely that you should really be rethinking your approach instead. Go ask for input at Wikisource:Scriptorium/Help and think long and hard about whether you really really must use this template.

It works by overlaying the provided text on the image and setting its color to transparent such that it is present, and can be read by accessibility tools or copied and pasted, but is invisible in the normal wikipage. The result is an image of text that still preserves a few of the most crucial properties of actual text.

Usage edit

  • {{iot|image|text}}

or more commonly

  • {{iot|image=image|text=text}}

The image parameter is a complete MediaWiki image specification, including width, alignment, etc.; the image is used as specified. The text parameter can in principle be any wikimarkup, but for its intended use cases it will be very simple text.

Speak gently to the printer man,
His work is pretty hard;
Besides, he does the best he can
To help along a bard.

O ever ready his response
To anything we ask,
Though we demand a hundred font
He would not curse his task,

And yet his lot is not a pipe;
Small wonder he is vexed,
If we mark this for Jensen type,
And this for Caslon Text.
