Roman numerals edit

Very useful template! Only it seems to have problems with roman numerals. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 22:43, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Jan.Kamenicek: See the sandbox for one option to solve that. It's not in the main template yet as it's needed testing.. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 15:28, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much. Unfortunately, I do not understand the code there :-( Maybe Xover as the author of the template could have a look at it… --Jan Kameníček (talk) 16:18, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
One relatively minor change is to add a num parameter to the evaluation for the modulo expression, on a page with roman numerals you would supply this either as a conversion from the pagenum or directly specfiy the modern digit equivalent. Aside: The template is also unlikely to cope with other non Western numeral forms that may exist.
@Xover: Code review of the sandbox requested.. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:26, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Having to manually specify an Arabic page number equivalent for the Roman numeral kind of defeats the purpose of this template. It is intended to make simple cases easy, not solve every edge case: we have {{rh}} for those that need the full power.
Longer term though, we might (for other reasons) want to make a Lua module to enable proper conversion from Roman numerals, which this template could then use to automate it. There's some other stuff that might also be practical to do once we're using Lua so I'll see if I can bump investigating that up my todo list a bit (but no promises). --Xover (talk) 08:37, 10 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

No pagenumber edit

how to use this template when there is no page number but only the central part changes in recto-verso pages? For examples in the book Index:The Kural or The Maxims Of Tiruvalluvar.pdf. @ShakespeareFan00: @Xover: @Beleg Tâl: - Balaji (Let's talk) 11:19, 6 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Balajijagadesh: This template is just a simple wrapper around {{rh}} to make simple cases easier to do. If it doesn't work well for a particular use case then use {{rh}} directly. In particular, rvh is built around the page number specifically, so if a work's running header doesn't contain the page number then this will not be a good template to use. @Xover: Thanks for the reply -- Balaji (Let's talk) 03:36, 7 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Balajijagadesh: I suggest to use {{rvh2}} instead, e. g. {{rvh2|{{{pagenum}}}|THE KURAL|CHAPTER| }} --Jan Kameníček (talk) 16:24, 6 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Jan.Kamenicek: Hi.. Thanks for trying but this {{rvh2|{{{pagenum}}}|THE KURAL|CHAPTER| }} didnt work. regards -- Balaji (Let's talk) 03:36, 7 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Balajijagadesh: Fixed, the recto and verso pages were mismatched in the suggestion above. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 11:04, 7 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Jan.Kamenicek: thanks for the update. Your saved time and effort for me. cheers !!! -- Balaji (Let's talk) 11:33, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Jan.Kamenicek: And a thanks from me as well, Jan. It hadn't occurred to me that you could do that with {{rvh2}}, so I learned a new trick here. :) Xover (talk) 13:38, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
