A bit of whimsical extravagance in the vein which Stevenson struck with his Suicide Club—if, indeed, It does not lead back to De Quincey and Swift, or farther. Three men about town, about London, that is, and a young girl whom one of them succors in distress and subsequently passes off as his sister, constitute themselves a General Philanthropic Removing Company. The object of the company is to "remove" as many Enemies of Humanity as possible, and incidentally to secure subscriptions for a children's hospital in which one of their number, the bland chronicler himself, is interested.—The Nation, 24 Sep. 1908.
