Indexes edit

Indexes are proofread as a single list. We do not replicate columns as these do not work at all well at transclusion. Entries are listed consecutively in one column. (See Multiple Columns)

Indexes spanning pages edit

{{div end}} in footer, {{plainlist|style=margin-left:2em; text-indent:-2em}} in header when index continues to next page

Do we need to nop?

Proofreading notes edit

You don't need to align the page numbers in index pages as they appear in the image; just make sure that the numbers and punctuation match the image and retain the line breaks. Ensure that all the text and numbers are correct. Page ranges are generally separated by an en-dash "–"

Indexes are often printed in 2 columns; this doesn't work on a wiki so we have produce a single column of entries. See columns

Use {{plainlist}}

Place one * before each entry in the index.

Treat each new section in an index (A, B, C, …) the same as a section heading by placing a {{dhr}} before it. These are linked with {{anchor}}. I.e. {{anchor|A}}; {{anchor|B}} or {{anchor+|C}}. as headings for sections A, B (not visible) or C. (visible).

Please check the Project Comments as the Project Manager may request different formatting, such as treating the index like a Table of Contents instead.

Links to pages will be managed by the transcluder.

For sub-topic listings (often separated by a semicolon ;), indent with a *:. For sub-sub-topics, use *:: etc.

Put : before {{Ditto}} for correct alignment e.g.*:{{Ditto|ditto}}

Links to pages edit

Internal reference e.g. See X. Anchor|x and link [[x address|x]]

OR it will be managed by the transcluder.

Hanging indents edit

{{plainlist|style=margin-left:2em; text-indent:-2em|

produces a hanging indent.

Different formatting edit

Please check the Project Comments as the Project Manager may request different formatting, such as treating the index like a Table of Contents instead. There are a variety of alternative formats found for indices:
