Duplication

edit

Wikisource does not delete duplicate text if those texts are different editions published through different means or places. Instead, Wikisource lists all such editions. The two translations we currently have for Hungary's 1949 constitution are not identical translations, and because they do have differences, we would not delete them simply because they are both translations of the same source text. --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:04, 20 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, now I noticed that these two were two different editions. As I can see, the Constitution of Hungary (1949) is the edition in effect on 31 December 2011 (the day before the current Fundamental Law entered into force). I think we should note it somehow in the title. Again, thank you for contacting me and excuse me for the incovenience. --Csimma Viktor (talk) 15:20, 20 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Rather than noting it in the title, we usually put information like that into the "Notes" section of the header or on the work's discussion page. --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:54, 20 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for this information, I will add that. However, I think the date "1949" should be changed, it suggests that the text is of the 1949 Constitution of the People's Republic. --Csimma Viktor (talk) 17:40, 20 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
If the constitution was adopted or published in 1949, then the date is correct. Do you mean that the Constitution of Hungary (1949) was adopted or published in some other year? --EncycloPetey (talk) 17:47, 20 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
The 1949 Constitution was of the Hungarian People's Republic. In 1989, the proclamation of the Republic happened through a large amendment package (Law no. 30 of 1989) adopted by the National Assembly, and even though the title remained "Law no. 20 of 1949", I think it would be confusing to leave the date 1949 in the title because of the enormous amount of modifications. The term "Constitution of 1949" usually refers to the Communist constitution in daily usage. --Csimma Viktor (talk) 17:59, 20 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I correct myself: the Constitution of Hungary (1949) is the edition in force on 23 October 1989 (the day of the proclamation of the Republic). The Constitution of the Republic of Hungary (1989) is the last edition before becoming uneffective on 1 January 2012. --Csimma Viktor (talk) 18:13, 20 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
