Updated scripts

Hello Moondyne. I updated your proofreading scripts to the latest version from Wikisource:TemplateScript. This appears to have some sections that are authored by others, and which may need their status confirmed separately. I'd also suggest moving a copy of the file to Wikisource locally, rather than at Commons, as from some cursory checks some of the section may still be subject to an EU (life+70) term. Author name

Hi, your latest author's name is not standard, I think. Yes, the book was written under the name K. S. Ranjitsinhji (Kumar Sri Ranjitsinhji), but later he ascended to the throne and became a Maharaja. So, mentioning him by "Kumar" is not appropriate. The name should be Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji II, his official royal designation. Best, Hrishikes (talk) 14:38, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

I am doing some transclusion checks, and see that the work Index:A Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin (1853).djvu has many pages not transcluded. Not sure whether it is something that you have missed and forgotten or what. I too thank you but always make sure there are no misspellings left when marking proofread. I just saw a page in v.2 where ShakespeareFan00 has corrected several misspellings you had left and yet you marked it as proofread. Are there actually works by this author in the public domain? We generally do not create author pages where an author does not have pages in the public domain, or there are no works about them. It becomes a little false advertising and it encourages people to add their works. Where the author page is not going to contain hostable works we have usually deleted them, however, where we have retained these author pages we need to remove the red links. Such a means is with the template {{copyright until}}. Please let me know which way we should proceed. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:32, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

A Voyage to Terra Australis, sidenotes

Hi, I've successfully used {{float left}} as a substitute for the problematic {{left sidenote}} before, but it isn't working as well here. Do you think it's good enough? I had a play with {{left margin}}, hoping the float left would be unaffected, like {{fqm}} but no joy. I really don't know how templates work which doesn't help :) What do you think? Thanks Zoeannl. Your's is obviously a big improvement on mine, so thanks. Try {{sidenotes begin}} in the header and {{right sidenote}} / {{left sidenote}} in the page body. In the mainspace the sidenote text appears in a box. Kind regards. Moondyne (talk) 08:35, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

I just really don't like how {{sidenotes}} looks. Also I believe it is prone to misbehaving on transclusion. Sidenotes generally don't really translate to digitising—on transclusion, most will not be seen anyway, only the first of the section. I'll stick with KISS, until a better alternative comes up. I've reverted your change of description for three key reasons: (1) the information on WP with the statement is completely unsourced, and is at odds with historical evidence that Virgil was not from Rome; (2) the description was redundant, making two statements about his place in time ("ancient" & "Augustan") but without identifying his place of origin; (3) Virgil was not in fact an Augustan Age poet, since the Augustan Age began in 27 B.C., and Virgil most likely published both his Eclogues & Georgics before that date. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:46, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Seems like splitting hairs at the cost of clarity. I understood "Augustan Age" referred to the period during the reign of Augustus (27 BC–14 AD). Georgics was first published in 29 BCE and refers to Augustus (as Caesar) in a number of places. Aeneid is arguably much more famous than either of the works you mentioned and was published sometime later. Many scholars refer to Virgil and his friend Horace as being Augustan-era poets. (eg Kelsall, "Augustus and Pope.") "non-Roman Italian ancestry" sounds a bit clunky and vague and is phrasing I've not heard previously. By non-Roman, I presume you're referring to Gaul, which was subdued into the empire by Caesar no later than 50BCE. Moondyne (talk) 13:21, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
