Authors by occupation, by type, by whatever

It seems that the WS author categories have become horribly overlapped and over-mixed, not only with themselves though also with biographical works due to their vague/ambiguous naming. I have been trying to sort it out and it all loops back on itself when trying to fix it. Anyway, I have conversations on {{WS:S]] trying to garner input and interest from the community—though not successfully. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:42, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

At WD biographical articles should point to edition items, not work item

I think that it is preferable that if we are linking the biographical articles through "published in" that it is better to link them to the respective edition item, rather than the work. Differing editions can change what they contain, and we are being truly specific if we do the edition. Please don't change what you have done, though please consider it if you ever feel the desire to make such changes. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 15:24, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Humans and dates of life

@Billinghurst: Thank you. I made two authors on the same day this week without a death date: Author:William Richard Bingley (which you worked on) and Author:Sidney Billing. Next time I run into an author without a deathdate, I'll drop you a ping. And as for Wikidata, I've added the Probate source to Wikidata since the (D/P)O(B/D) properties prefer that a source is added to them. ミラP@Miraclepine 04:39, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

(thumpsup) I know WD requires sources, I just buck the trend as it is so burdensome as many of the sources that I find are not in the system or just a PITA, and instead I record them and just tell them AUTHOR TALK PAGE! :-)

Info about WD articles and MatB articles template preload

Hi. After some back and forth at Wikidata, it has been indicated that they would like us to be doing both the TITLE and LANGUAGE fields, which I hadn't been doing. I have had a chat to one of the programmers at WD and they will be doing some coding so that I can bot-populate from our per templates, which is good. So if you have any of these on your watchlist, then you may see some traffic in the next while.

Also I remembered how to do some of the preload functionality, so for MatB you should see a group area editnotice that will preload Template:MatB with a click. I think I have fixed all the existing cases in the articles. Some caching means that the search box still turns up cases. Anyway, one to look out for. Same thing can happen in "bar.-at-law", also common enough. Charles Matthews (talk) 19:24, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

If you are using m:TemplateScript as the regex editor or planning to use it through the cleanup scripts, add this which will replace the digit 1 and the uppercase I.

/co[1I]n/g, 'coln'

I utilise the app in similar methodology with a range of works to make cleanup and standardised formatting easier, some of it work specific. And I always proofread in monotext. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:35, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

In terms of my own practice: it is lo-tech. When I find a typo on an AlOx page, I then run a series of about 20 "find" searches to pick up common issues. For example "0ct." for "Oct.", i.e. zero for upper-case O. See diffs of edits after a page has been fully transcluded as articles. Just some gradual cleanup.
