Mathematical data edit

Hi, R. Koot.

I want to get a hold of you before you spend too much effort here. Recently WS voted to exclude all mathematical data. In a short bit of time, it will all be deleted. I want to tell you now, so that you don't invest a lot of time into the math section here, lest all your hard work be wasted.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 21:50, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

The reasoning for this is an entire 2+ year debate, which I couldn't even begin to nail down here. But basically, WS has been making some major changes—it has finally gotten its goals in order and is building its infrastructure to become a respectable Wikimedia project (a status that it debatably did not have until the start of 2006). One such major change is that WS has decided that it wants its goals to be archival of source texts, and only source texts. We want works that have actually been written, things where creative and intellectual energies have been used to make them. This means excluding all reference material (source code, cryptography, math data, etc.) so that we can better focus on our own goal and try to bring as much fruit from them as we possibly can. That's the reasoning in a nutshell.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 05:32, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
