Guidance
editStarting or joining
editTo join in with proofreading a work already in progress, click on a blue "Done" link in the "Index page?" column. This will take you to the index page for that work, with a display of pages and their color-coded page status. Any individual page can be proofread or, if already proofread, validated at any time.
To start an index page, click on the red "Click to start" wikilink in the "Index page?" column. This will start a new page: fill in as many details as possible and save. As ever, this is a wiki-based project so any mistakes can always be corrected later; do not worry too much about making them. When an index page has been saved, the red cross will turn to a green tick and the link will change to "Done".
Three statuses
editUpdating the the "Proofread", "Validated" and "Text Completed?" columns needs to be done manually.
Proofread (the yellow status) means that the page has been proofread to match the text in the page scan. Matching the text is most important. Matching the typography and layout nice but not essential.
Validated (the green status) means that a different person (not the user who proofread the page) has checked it and confirmed that it matches the page scan. They may make some fixes at this stage.
A text is complete when it is transcluded to the main namespace. This means a page with all of the proofread text, such as Secretary Kissinger's Talks in China, November 1974 and its subpages.
Updating statuses
editWhen a work is fully proofread (all pages with content marked either yellow or green), add {{done}} to the appropriate proofread parameter. ie. it should appear as:
| proofread = {{done}}
Do the same with the validated parameter when a work is fully validated (all pages with content marked green).
When a work has been transcluded, enter the title of the page in the completed parameter. Do not wikilink this page name, that will be done automatically (the red cross will also become a green tick). ie. if the page title were Foo
, it would appear as:
| completed = Foo
Notes
edit- Text that should not be seen in the main namespace (such as page numbers and often the classification) should still be proofread but it should be put in the header or footer sections. If you cannot see these sections, click the [+] icon at the top of the page scan.
- If a page ends on the end of a paragraph, add a new line and the {{nop}} template. Otherwise the computer will assume the sentence flows into the text on the next page with no break.
- Some of these files are "memcons", memoranda of conversations, and often have standard opening text describing the participants etc. A template for a common form of this text for these files can be found at {{memcon header}}. Not all documents follow this pattern, however, so some will need to be put together manually.

edit- See Commons category (Ford) and Commons category (Nixon) for source files.
Note: These works are often short and may be better for quick work.
Transcript-like records, and the notes from which they were prepared, of President Nixon’s and President Ford’s conversations with heads of state and foreign officials, senior intelligence and national security officials, American ambassadors, Cabinet members, members of Congress, and other distinguished foreign and American visitors.
Due to the number of files in this collection, they have been split into different pages:
