Random maths edit

Just a note, as a byproduct of checking something for WS:NEWS: we are connected an average of 47.75 authors per day and it will, mathematically, take 100 days from the start of recording this data, or until 29-JUN-2014, to connect the entire namespace. i.e. based on the linear graph equation y=mx+c, we have A=-47.75T+4770.75, where A is the number of unconnected authors and T is in days since 22-MAR-2014. (I'm not including that in WS:NEWS but I thought it was interesting enough to note somewhere.) - AdamBMorgan (talk) 17:35, 31 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

VIAF records edit

Hi folks, great work, but please note that VIAF is just a collection of authority files. It's a great help, but also flawed, outdated and incomplete. (Sometimes two authors are merged in one and often one author has serveral VIAFs.) For "identifying the correct author" the best way is to use the original authority file like GND and LCNAF.

VIAF is far from outdated. It is rebuilt monthly. It is build from the latest input from LCNAF and GND, and their data are enhanced by each other and the 30 other national libraries that contribute their authority records to VIAF. The result is a database superior to any of the contributing databases. Ralphlevan (talk) 14:06, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
